The Northwest Trading Company Inc. is located at the corner of Highway 6 and 17 at the turnoff to Espanola and Manitoulin Island. This is not your typical store, it's an experience! Upon entering, you will be greeted by a friendly staff and a million different things to look at. There is something for everyone from the baker to the fisherman and anything in between. The children love the candy and ice cream corner as well as the giant plush animals. Many visitors bring their cameras inside to take pictures with our life size black bear.
Current owner, Vern Gorham, started the business back in May 2001 with his sister, Chantelle and his parents Vern and Sharon Gorham. His sister was responsible for making fudge, his mother ran the cash register while his father took care of the accounting side of things. For these new owners, the cash register seemed a little tricky to operate so they thought it would be a good idea so simply lift the cash register and put the money underneath it! Eventually, Chantelle opened her own fudge business now well known as the Northwest Fudge Factory. Vern's parents retired from their second career as retail store workers. Vern now solely runs the store with the help of his staff.
